NOCTURNAL CATHEDRAL – Nordic Summer Night Photo Print
There’s something about standing all alone outside in the light Nordic summer night looking up at the blue and orange sky, watching the clouds slowly move. It fills me with emotions like awe and reverence. It’s very much a spiritual feeling. The title put that feeling into words. I had taken lots of night photos during the winter and the spring and I remember saying goodbye to the darkness as we entered the light period of the year. The time when it never gets dark.
That is one of the wonders of the Finnish summer landscape. You can enjoy it at any time of the day – or night! I decided to try to capture the light summer nights this year and show to the world how beautiful they are. This late July night still did not let any darkness cover the landscape. I started by going to the harbour at midnight. Then I had a stop at another field before I found this lovely place. Clouds were slowly moving across the night sky. The barley fields were still green. It was quiet and peaceful. I had my tripod on the top of a pile of heap to get a little higher up and capture more of the road.
